Isaac’s Path to a Future in IT: How MVCA’s IT Certificate of Achievement Program Transformed His Career Aspirations

At Michigan Virtual Charter Academy (MVCA), we don’t just guide our students through their high school years; we also prepare them for their future. By partnering with Henry Ford College and the Computer Networking Academy to offer the CCNA Certificate of Achievement program, MVCA provides students with an exciting opportunity to step into the fast-growing world of Information Technology (IT).
Isaac’s Journey: From Curious Kid to Future IT Professional
Meet Isaac, an 11th grader at MVCA who discovered his academic spark through the IT Certificate of Achievement program. Isaac’s passion for computers began at a young age. As a child, he would take apart old, unused computers to learn how they worked. By the time he was 11, Isaac was coding with a friend over Zoom. At 14, he began creating simple circuit displays. When Isaac enrolled in MVCA, he was eager to dive deeper into his interests by taking advantage of this specialized program.
As Isaac’s mom, Julie, shares, “When Isaac was little, we would give him our old computers that didn’t work anymore, and then he’d take them apart. Everything was always about ‘how do things work?’ He’s always been analytical. That’s part of his personality.”
What the Program Offers
The IT Certificate of Achievement program provides MVCA students with a solid foundation in IT through four specialized courses. This initiative allows students to dual-enroll, earning both elective credits toward high school graduation and a valuable credential that sets them apart in the job market. Even better, the program is completely online and offered at no cost to MVCA students.
Opening Doors to IT Careers
Before enrolling in this program, Isaac didn’t consider pursuing education beyond high school. However, this program challenged him in ways he never expected, and now he’s planning to pursue a career in IT while continuing his education with additional training after high school.
Julie explains, “We have friends that are doing IT work or working with computer coding. Some have already said that once Isaac’s out of school, they might be interested in seeing if he would want to join them.”
Graduates of the program have gone on to land IT jobs, and the skills gained through this certification can set students like Isaac on a strong path in the growing tech industry. With nearly 150,000 Michigan residents working in the IT sector, this program is a gateway to high-demand careers in the state.
A Growing Opportunity in Michigan’s Tech Workforce
Isaac’s natural aptitude for IT and infrastructure positions him well to catch the eye of companies seeking young, talented individuals. The IT Certificate of Achievement program is one of several opportunities MVCA students can explore as they develop their interests and prepare for life after high school.
