The Flex Program

At MVCA, we know every student learns differently, and families have busy, unique schedules. That’s why we offer Flex, an incentive-based program designed to reward students who practice healthy learning habits.

Why Families Choose Flex

There are lots of reasons to choose Flex to fit your family’s needs. Here are some of the main benefits students enjoy.

Stay on Track With Support

Students in Flex continue to attend their regular live classes and follow standard program expectations. When students meet progress, attendance, or engagement goals, the school may offer targeted moments of flexibility, such as a Flex day, course-specific flexibility, or adjusted schedule blocks. Students are still expected to attend all required sessions, including state compliance sessions, testing, special services, interventions, and any other school-required support.

Flex & Graduation

Flex students earn the same MVCA diploma as other students; transcripts do not indicate participation in Flex.

Graduation requirements are identical for all students, as set by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE)/Hazel Park Public Schools (authorizer) and aligned with MDE/MVCA state standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Flex different from the standard program?

Flex students earn targeted moments of flexibility when they meet or exceed the school’s standard expectations for progress.

Is the curriculum the same as standard MVCA?

Yes! Flex students use the same online platform, curriculum, and grade-level courses as standard MVCA students. They also have access to social emotional learning and may participate in all clubs and social opportunities offered at MVCA and K12.

Do siblings need to enroll in the same program?

No. Families often have one child in Flex and another in the standard program, depending on individual learning needs.

What if Flex isn’t the right fit?

Students can transition back to a traditional, structured class schedule if Flex isn’t working for them. The change can be requested by the family or initiated by the school. Students who don’t meet the requirements for staying in Flex may also be transitioned back to standard learning.
